July 29, 2010 | TNMAP to host Civil War Battlefields map site.
The Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) and OIR GIS Services will use a grant from the National Park Services American Battlefield Protection Program to develop a GIS enabled database of the state's Civil War battlefields. The site will be available for federal, state and local planning agencies as well as the general public.
The site will link information from the Civil War Sourcebook for Tennessee to Civil War maps and documents archived at TSLA. This enhanced resource will be available on TSLA's section of the Tennessee Department of State web site.
GIS technology has become one of the major tools used by planners who are trying to protect and preserve Civil War battlefields.

July 15, 2010 | NEW updated TBI Sex Offender Site
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and OIR GIS Services have released an updated version of the Sex Offender Registry map site (http://tnmap.state.tn.us/sor/). The new site uses ArcGIS cached data layers and the javascipt API for ArcGIS Services.

September 14, 2009 | TNMAP supports TDEC
The Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Pollution Control and OIR GIS Services have released a new application that provides the public with water quality and permitting information (http://tnmap.state.tn.us/wpc). Users will have the ability to view and query a wide variety of permitting, stream assessment, and other water quality data sources. Future developments of this web mapping solution will include State Parks and other public lands and links to these facilities. More Info

TNMAP aids Economic Development for VW suppliers
The Department of Economic and Community (ECD) Development has partnered with OIR GIS Services in the development of a GIS application to support the new VW plant in Chattanooga. Potential part suppliers to the new VW plant can search an online GIS database to identify potential land or building locations. A total of 42 sites within a 60 mile radius of the new VW plant site in Chattanooga are included in the online GIS database. Potential VW suppliers can search each of these locations in proximity to the VW plant and query additional information including: size of property and buildings, proximity to interstate and rail service, available utilities, proximity to flood hazard area, land use factors, and pictures of each location. This GIS application leverages data developed from the Tennessee Base Mapping Program and other GIS business data developed by ECD, and represents another opportunity to promote GIS and the value of the Tennessee Base Mapping Program in support of economic development. State unveils new voter registration lookup application
The Tennessee Secretary of State Division of Elections and the Department of Finance and Administration have collaborated on a new web application (http://tnmap.state.tn.us/voterlookup) that provides the public with access to their voter registration information. Users will have the ability to find out their current voting status, district information, and a map showing the location of their polling place. More Info
